from Heisman Award victor Manti Te'o has heard every joke, seen every meme, and (presumably) cried all the tears he could for being one of the first and most well-known catfishing victims.

After Deadspin exposed the facts about Te'o's relationship with an unnamed woman,  the embattled for nine months. In his new Netfix documentary Untold The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist,

ashamed former football player finally tells his side of the story. When a scandal involves a person with legendary fame, as Te'o did between 2009 and 2012,

the media ignores it unless it becomes more than just a news item. The Netflix documentary focuses on the accomplishments of the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, five-star recruit, and most-loved son of Hawaii,

as well as his undying dedication to philanthropy, which would ultimately lead to his downfall. When he declared for the 2013 NFL Draft, he already had a relationship with Lennay Kekua,

a fictitious girlfriend who later claimed she had died when it was revealed that she had concocted a similar tale.

She was the focus of every news outlet and comedian who tried to diminish him to insignificance.

After it was revealed that Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was the person behind the Lenny persona and that he had been selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round,

contrary to initial expectations, the sexual orientation of his partner came under scrutiny.
